IMPORTANT SUNFLOWER UPDATE
Our Sunflowers are behind schedule and we are pretty upset about it
Weโve grown beautiful sunflowers for 4 yearsโฆ but never in a Texas spring.
We knew it would be a challenge to pull off spring Sunflowers, but this yearโs weather was even more challenging than we anticipated.
The evening temperatures dropped lower than average too many nights this spring and our sunflowers were stunted. We hoped they would pull through and get growing. Not only are they definitely behind schedule, but we think they are stunted, heightwise, by the cold weather snaps weโve had and the drought we endured through mid-March.
Itโs been weird weather this year everywhere it seemsโฆAsk our Maryland friends who just had a measurable snow in late April!
While we will have sunflowers, they are definitely at least two weeks behind schedule and going to be shorter in height than anticipated
Donโt fear! We have a back-up plan! We have just planted another acre of Sunflowers with hopes that the weather stays warm moving forward (and we could use some more rain!)
We are still opening May 7th as planned for our festival activities As of now, we will NOT have Sunflowers on opening weekend. We donโt think that we will have any blooming flowers until Mid-May as of now.
We are fertilizing the flowers with hopes that the warmer weather ahead will help keep them growing.
Therefore, if you are coming mainly for Sunflowers, not the activities, please postpone your visit to late May or June
SO HERE ARE THE UPDATED DETAILS OF THE SUNFLOWER FESTIVAL
We are still opening for the Festival activities as planned, we are just taking the Sunflower field growth day by day and we will be posting regular updates so stay tuned for those! If Sunflowers are the reason you are coming, please watch or CONTACT US for updates on the Sunflower Field bloom.
We are EXTENDING our Sunflower Festival through June 26th!
We have high hopes for the recently replanted field scheduled to bloom mid-June! Plan for late May or June for our Sunflowers to be in bloom.
We have enjoyed sharing our story and journey with you guys. That includes the good AND the bad of building out the new farm.
