Throwing it back
I’d like to share a little bit more about who we are and why we love Farm Festivals
The year was 2006. I was free child labor for my struggling farmer parents on a 400 acre hay and crop farm in Maryland. Just 6 years prior, they had heard about this “Corn Maze” idea where you cut a path in a corn field and people would pay you money to walk through it. Crazy, right?
Well, my mom decided “why not” and they cut their very first corn maze and opened up in the year 2000. In this photo is me, their free labor, running our famous “pumpkin cannon”. People would drive from hours away to come shoot this cannon. It would launch pumpkins at speeds of 70+ mph toward targets my dad would build.
Over the years, our farm grew as we came up with new and “bigger and better” ideas. In 2009, my dad built “Transformers” out of a tractor trailer and a old farm truck. They stood about 30’ tall and landed us a spot on “The top 15 Maryland Roadside attractions”.
We grew over the years, especially in 2017 when my husband and I purchased the farm and invested in the business to add more activities for kids. We also learned after several years of failures, how to grow one of the most beautiful pumpkin crops in Maryland. Building, growing and educating guests to the farm was our greatest joy.
Growing up in the agritourism business has been something that’s always been in my blood. Some of my fondest memories were at the fall festivals on our farm. I love the creativity I’ve been able to bring to it, as well as the pure happiness of seeing families enjoying a day together on what we worked tirelessly to build for months prior.
I’m so excited to be opening up Western Belle here in this beautiful state we now call “home”. It’s a new chapter for us and our little family and we are excited for it.
Moving a farm cross country comes with its challenges but we’ve been able to maneuver them so far. The vision is really coming together and we are getting REALLY excited to share it with y’all!
Oh… and… We may have brought this cannon with us… and we may be working on a cool target for you this fall Stay Tuned! You won’t want to miss it
